Sir Edward Watkin was a British MP and a railway entrepreneur. He expanded the Metropolitan Railway and created the Great Central Main Line. He also tried to dig a Channel Tunnel and build a rival to the Eiffel Tower in Wembley. Peter Healy traces the life of this great Victorian.

Trading Store now open for 2026

Our Trading Store opened for business on 4th January. We expect our main delivery of bulky products like compost at the end of January. In the meantime, members can renew their membership at the Store on any Sunday between 10am and mid-day. The 2026 Show Schedule will also be available at the Store later in January.

No more discounts at Hildreth's Garden Centre or Peterley Manor Farm

We have learned that, from 1st September 2025, Hildreth's no longer offer our members the 10% discount on horticultural purchases. Apparently, this is because they have launched their own loyalty card costing, we believe, £5 per annum. We also understand that discounts are no longer offered by Peterley Manor Farm.
